Specific Lunac 1 features:

One of the best obtainable industrial non stick coating when applied in plastic (and food) processing tools. This prevents die or W-lines, die lip build up, poor conveyance and
plastic degradation.Unique hard non-stick coating mostly applied to food and plastic processing equipment. This feature improve in most cases melt flow and with that reduce or eliminate die lines, edge build up, W-line, head drooling, mold pollution, bad product release or plastic degradation.-
In case parts still need to be cleaned, the Lunac 1 coating facilitates this process almost unparalleled.
-
Lunac 1 is very corrosion, as well as tarnish resistant and proved not to react with corrosive plastics such as: ABS, PC, POM, PET, HIPS, PVC,CPVC or even fluoroplastics such as PVDF or PFA.
-
Partly because of its inert nature, Lunac 1 is capable to eliminate black specks formation completely ! (see picture below; the left part is the Lunac 1 plated inert area of a PC processing screw).
-
'Flow polish nature', i.e. polish time will be reduced up to 20-fold compared to the polish time for tooling steel (CrMoV4) ! Obtainable roughness: Ra < 0.01 µm (.0004 µinch), when started with Ra 0.35 µm (.0138 µinch), Rz +/- 2.5 µm (.1 µinch).
-
Untempered Lunac 1 is approved for applications in food processing equipment, according to LFGB (Germany BGBI.I S.215 and BGBI. I S. 2159) .
-
Molds coated with Lunac 1 preserve their highly polished structure very well.
-
Complies fully with the RoHS standard.
General Lunac system features:
- Lunac can establish a full (welding quality) substrate bond.
Lunac coatings can be applied to:
-- almost every kind of (stainless) steel or cast iron (up to HRc 50)
-- nearly all copper alloys
-- aluminum with restrictions
- The throwing power in complex / deep structures is approximately
6 times better than the throwing power of hard chromium
(as well as less edge build up).
- Starting at 23 µm (0.0009") these coatings are completely
closed and contain compressive stresses.
- The duplo coating system passes, applied to pore free construction steel
with the intermediate technical nickel coating, the ASTM B117 1000 hours
Neutral Salt spray test without any rust spot formation (rating 10).
The second part has been coated

This PC processing screw developed over 12% product rejection due to black specks in the product. Due to the completely closed and inert Lunac 1 structure plastic degradation is strongly inhibited and black specks formation can be banned completely if all parts in contact with the melt are coated. This plast molding screw was partially coated (left part). The absence of black deposition on this part of the screw is clearly visible.
These optical products display the effect of hardening to, in this case, 100 µm (4 mil) Lunac 1
and 100 µm electroless nickel (320°C/ 608 F). The hardened electroless nickel developed micro cracks and consequently lost
its corrosion protective task. Electroless nickel plated machine parts in fluoroplastic
processing will also suffer from this effect due to the high process temperatures
